Online gambling arrived in New Jersey in November of 2013 when the first legal and regulated online casinos opened for business in the state. The industry was authorized earlier that year when Governor Chris Christie signed a bill on February 26th, 2013 to license and regulate online gambling within the borders of the state.

The online casinos are regulated by the NJ Department of Gaming Enforcement, which oversees their operation to insure that the brands operate in accordance with the strict rules established in the state. Each online casino brand must operate under the license of a land-based casino in Atlantic City.
